Section 2 - Rank and Title
Every martial arts style has its own colour
structure for maintaining the progress of a student. In KickFit Martial
Arts Schools Tae Kwon-Do, before earning a black belt students progress
through a grade or kup system (pronounced “cup”) of twelve coloured
belts. Belts with a black stripe running through the middle are called
“advanced”, those with a white stripe and called “intermediate”.
Beginners start their training with no belt and
earn their white belt after the first two classes. With regular
training, they soon move through to the intermediate teaching classes.
The advanced level is reached after 18 to 22 months.
After achieving a black belt, a student may
continue his or her training to second Dan, third Dan, etc. Different
Dan black belts (first Dan, second Dan, etc) are indicated by gold
stripes that are embroidered into the ends of the belt — a first Dan
will have one stripe, second Dan will have two stripes, etc.
The colours of the belts in order of achievement
