Section 2 - Rank and Title

What is the order of the belts for Junior and Adult students?

Every martial arts style has its own colour structure for maintaining the progress of a student. In KickFit Martial Arts Schools Tae Kwon-Do, before earning a black belt students progress through a grade or kup system (pronounced “cup”) of twelve coloured belts. Belts with a black stripe running through the middle are called “advanced”, those with a white stripe and called “intermediate”.

Beginners start their training with no belt and earn their white belt after the first two classes. With regular training, they soon move through to the intermediate teaching classes. The advanced level is reached after 18 to 22 months.

After achieving a black belt, a student may continue his or her training to second Dan, third Dan, etc. Different Dan black belts (first Dan, second Dan, etc) are indicated by gold stripes that are embroidered into the ends of the belt — a first Dan will have one stripe, second Dan will have two stripes, etc.

The colours of the belts in order of achievement are:

Assistants are students who have been selected to attend and passed the Pro-Mac (professional martial arts college) course. The nine week course teaches the basics of being a good finder and assistant’s duties during the class and around the school. Each assistant must go through a comprehensive series of tests both written and oral before they can step onto the dojang floor. Most assistants are not employees of the school and often hold careers in other fields. They continue to train and learn how to teach under the guidance of their school instructor.
